Danville 4th of July Parade 2017
We were honored to be a part of the Danville 4th of July Parade again this year. It was our second year joining this hometown tradition, and we had a blast. Our wonderful, patient and supportive families joined us to walk the parade and pass out candy. And it was great to see so many friends waving and cheering along the parade route.
We played a short set of favorites- from All Right Now and Melt With You to What I Like About You and Stay Cat Strut, with a trilogy of Girls (American, Brown Eyed, and Jessie’s), and some Americana like California Sun and Pink Houses. We had planned a bunch of extras just in case, but we actually raced through the route in just around 40 minutes. We also had a little fun playing White Wedding and The Middle on the side streets of Danville… Good times!
Last year, we had a huge 24 foot truck, but this time we ended up with one of the smaller trucks. It didn’t look like we were all going to fit, but one of the Borg Fence guys saved the day by showing us how to raise the rear lift gate to extend our platform. He assured us that the lift is designed to hold a palette of concrete, so we should be ok if Gary stood out there along with the speaker cabinets.
Playing on the back of a moving truck isn’t easy, and our truck driver this year was a bit speed challenged. There were several times where a large gap opened up in front of us on the parade route, and the driver raced forward with us scrambling to keep balance and prevent our gear from tipping over, and leaving our families in the dust. Nevertheless, we all made it through relatively unscathed, and had a great time.
It was another one for the books. We’ll look forward to doing this again next year. Happy 4th everyone!
